Barack Obama’s 30-minute infomercial led some to believe he had changed his stance on the tax cuts. Obama said, “Here’s what I’ll do. Cut taxes for every working family making less than $200,000 a year. Give businesses a tax credit for every new employee that they hire right here in the U.S. over the next two years and eliminate tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas. Help homeowners who are making a good faith effort to pay their mortgages, by freezing foreclosures for 90 days. And just like after 9-11, we’ll provide low-cost loans to help small businesses pay their workers and keep their doors open.” The Obama campaigned insisted there was no change. They pointed to this quote by the candidate, “If you make less than a quarter of a million dollars a year, you will not see a single dime of your taxes go up. If you make $200,000 a year or less, your taxes will go down.” Meanwhile, two new polls show the presidential race a dead heat. WISH-TV/Research2000 had the race tied at 47 percent. The Indianapolis Star/WTHR/Selzer Poll had Obama up 45.9 to 45.3 percent. An Oct. 23-24 Howey/Gauge Poll had McCain up 47-45 percent, also within the margin of error.
