Chairman Thurman?

Former Indiana UAW chief Terry Thurman (center) could become the next Marion County Democratic chairman. Indiana Democratic Chairman Dan Parker confirmed that current Marion County Democratic Chairman Mike O’Connor is planning to step down in the coming weeks. Former chairman Ed Treacy had been the key name for replacing O’Connor. But Parker told HPI that Thurman retired from the UAW as national vice president on July 1, is moving back to Indiana and has expressed interest in the job. Thurman received a B. A. degree in Political Science from Indiana University in 1973. He has worked in numerous campaigns in Indiana and Kentucky and is a former member of the Democratic National Committee His wife, Connie Thurman, is director of the Region III UAW CAP Council, which has had a rocky relationship with O’Connor. Thurman is shown here with former Democratic Chairman Joe Hogsett (left) at the IDEA Convention at French Lick in August 2003.
