Noon today was the deadline for Indiana voters to submit ballot petitions to their county clerks in hopes of getting the "Taxpayers Party" Waterman-Jehl ticket on the November Gubernatorial ballot. Indiana’s ninety-two county clerks now have until July 15 to certify the petitioners’ voter registration and forward them to Waterman’s campaign. The campaign has opted to count the signatures in house, and provided they reach the 32,742 threshold, forward them to the Indiana Election Division, also by July 15.
Waterman’s campaign manager, John Price, doesn’t know how many petitions have been submitted. "It’s impossible to know," Price said this afternoon. "That’s not a prevarication, it’s just impossible to know. We have so many groups and individuals around the state who have been gathering signatures…until we start getting the bulk of those in here today, we just won’t know. The expectation is that we’ll have more than the 32,742 that are due." (HPI Photo by Brian A. Howey)
