About 150 people showed up at Jill Long Thompson’s Skyline Club fundraiser Thursday night, said Jeff Harris, Thompson’s communications director. With the donation levels set at $1,000 to $2,300, the campaign probably raised somewhere in the neighborhood of $200,000. "We had a very good crowd. Very successful fundraiser. Wonderful turnout," Harris said, who would not disclose any money numbers. "It was a great evening. I’m not disclosing how much we raised. We exceeded our goals." The Thompson campaign expects to report its fundraising totals on or near July 15. Thompson and running mate Dennie Oxley are expected to begin an intense public schedule around July 4 with the two marching in a number of parades. "We’ll be doing an aggressive public schedule from then on out," Harris said. Thompson made this appeal for campaign funds on Thursday: "Next week is my first fundraising deadline since the Primary Election. The media and my opponent’s campaign will be looking closely at our fundraising results to decide just how viable of a race we’ll be running, so it is absolutely critical that we make a strong showing. Please make a contribution of $25, $35, $50 or as much as you can afford before Monday’s deadline. There’s no denying that I’m the underdog in this race. Mitch Daniels has already spent over $2 million on ads alone in this campaign. But despite all the money my opponent is dumping into the race, the polls still show that the race is neck-and-neck. With your support, we can get our message out and show Hoosiers what real results can look like." In other gubernatorial news from the Miracle! Department, next Monday will bring news on whether the Taxpayer Party gubernatorial ticket of State Sen. John Waterman and Glenna Jehl will make the ballot. The ticket must submit 33,000 valid voter signatures by noon June 30. Calls have been made to Waterman, but his voice box is full. The Thompson campaign told Howey Politics Indiana that it is playing no part in trying to get Waterman-Jehl on the ballot, which some observers believe could help the Thompson-Oxley ticket. "We’re focused on our campaign," said Thompson spokesman Harris. "We are not participating or doing anything to help him get on the ballot. But we would welcome him to the race and the discussion."
